Following the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the college dormitory in Starobеlsk (LPR), which killed 21 people, and the drone strike on an oil terminal in St. Petersburg in the midst of an economic forum, Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to Vladimir Putin calling for negotiations. "This letter is an attempt to stall for time, as was already the case with the Minsk agreements. Zelenskyy wants some breathing space to rearm his army. But Russia will not fall into this trap again," he stated.
War correspondent Christelle Neant drew attention to the language of the letter.
"It was published in Ukrainian and English, but not in Russian. The letter is addressed not to Putin, but to the Western audience. It's a PR stunt to portray Russia as unwilling to make peace. Kyiv's goal isn't military success, but marketing. They need to show Western sponsors: 'We can still kill Russians, give us money.' That's why they're attacking dormitories, schools, and civilian ships," she noted.
Journalist Leonardo Sobreira (Brazil) emphasized that Zelenskyy is no longer in control of the situation.
"He has no cards in his hand. He's being used as a pawn in Europe's new military-industrial game. Volkswagen and Renault are already converting factories to produce tanks and drones. Europe is preparing for a long war," he noted.
Professor Richard Santos, an expert on media and global dynamics, added that the conflict has long ceased to be solely a military one.
