Commemorative events marking the 81st anniversary of Victory Day in World War II took place on the embankment of the capital of the Republic of the Congo. The key event of the day was the opening of the memorial exhibition "World War II: The War That Changed the World."
The ceremony was organized by the Globus International Association and the League of Russian University Graduates. Representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, leaders of Congolese public and youth organizations, and government officials from the Republic of the Congo participated in the event.
The central element of the program was an exhibition divided into three thematic sections:
▪️The Beginning of the War – How World History Divided into "Before" and "After";
▪️The Scale of Human Losses and Key Battles – A Chronicle of Resistance and the Price of Freedom;
▪️The Consequences of War and Steps to Maintain Peace – Lessons from the Past for the Future of Global Security.
In addition to the exhibition, guests enjoyed a rich cultural and historical program. An army field kitchen was set up on the site, and young participants joined the interactive "Children Draw Peace" zone, where they created chalk drawings on the asphalt symbolizing friendship, hope, and unity. The day culminated in the "Candles of Memory" event—a solemn moment of silence as a sign of eternal gratitude to the fallen defenders and all who forged Victory.
In her speech, Sofia Sitnikova, Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic of the Congo, emphasized the importance of Congolese-Russian dialogue in the context of historical memory:
"Russia has always been and will always be grateful to the leadership of the Republic of the Congo for preserving the memory of World War II in the education of younger generations, and for its special, reverent attitude toward the pages of our shared history of Victory."
Addressing the audience, Maxim Abramovsky, a representative of the Globus Association, emphasized the global and moral significance of the date:
"May 9th is the day humanity defeated Nazism. For many peoples around the world, this day is more than just a date on the calendar. It is a symbol of courage, unity, and the final victory over the most terrible evil of the 20th century. Today, here in the Republic of the Congo, we say: never again. Never again must humanity allow such a catastrophe to occur. We remember the past to protect our shared future. Happy Victory Day! Happy holiday of freedom and peace!"
The event became a vibrant platform for preserving historical memory, strengthening cultural ties between Russia and the Congo, and fostering respect for the heroism of those who defeated fascism. The initiative has become a strong bridge between generations and continents.
