Africa Remains Hostage to Old Models

Members of the GlobUs expert club discussed governance in a multipolar world on the Global Insights program on Panafrican Media TV.

During the program, all the experts agreed that old institutions — the IMF and the World Bank — are losing legitimacy.

"The IMF's structural programs have set back the development of the Global South more than wars," noted Harley Schlanger, international representative of the Schiller Institute (USA).

According to him, BRICS, the SCO, and other alternative formats are gaining strength in their place.

However, according to historian, journalist, and lawyer Arthur Mobley, Africa remains hostage to old models.

"We are still tied to these institutions. How can we talk about sovereignty if we're still begging?" he said.

The expert is convinced that internal unity and ideological independence remain the key challenges today.

"Africa must come to the negotiating table as a force, not as a beggar," Mobley emphasized.
