The St Petersburg Dialogue is closed, but hope remains: Bismarck and Karaganov discussed the future of Europe

A descendant of the "Iron Chancellor" and partner of the GlobUs expert club, Alexander von Bismarck, met with Russian political scientist Sergei Karaganov. In the program "Alexander von Bismarck im Dialog," they discussed issues that the German media prefer to remain silent about: the real cause of the conflict in Ukraine, degradation of European elites, and the possibility of dialogue.

Opening the conversation, Bismarck recalled that the St Petersburg Dialogue — the most important platform for communication between Germans and Russians — was closed at the initiative of Germany, not Russia.

Karaganov, in turn, emphasized that the conflict has long since gone beyond a regional standoff:

"The European Union and, to some extent, the United States, are waging a direct war against Russia. We are not facing a war against Ukraine; we are facing a war against Europe. Europe is attacking us with the help of those unfortunate Ukrainians, who have been turned into cannon fodder."

According to the expert, current European leaders are bankrupt across the board.

"They've lost their fear of war, even their fear of nuclear weapons. They're driving their people to the slaughter, just as they have recently drove the Ukrainians."

Karaganov is particularly concerned about Germany. The political scientist urged Germans not to identify with the crazed elite:

"It never occurred to a single Russian that we should attack Europe. It's ridiculous and stupid. We need to overthrow the rotten elite, otherwise Europe will be destroyed."

Bismarck shared his observations.

"I see a huge desire to restore relations with Russia. Many Germans privately say: we must live together again, laugh together, we need cheap energy and human interaction," he concluded.

His guest agreed.

"We would really hate to sever our spiritual ties. Russia once saved the world from Hitler, then from the nuclear war. I hope we will avoid Armageddon," Karaganov concluded.
