Africa versus US Deportation Policy: Sovereignty or Capitulation?

On Global Insights on Panafrican Media TV, members of the GlobUs expert club criticized Ghana's decision to accept Africans deported from the US, calling it a dangerous precedent.

They believe Trump is reviving colonial logic, turning the continent into a "dumping ground for undesirables," with individual governments playing the role of accomplices. International financial expert Dr Achille Ekeu pointed to the American leader's pressure on the work of the US Supreme Court.

"Trump is using it as his 'backyard.' He simply asks for permission to break the law—and gets it," Ekeu noted.

In turn, Professor Tape Groubera harshly condemned the position of African leaders.

"The West has never acted in Africa's interests. If we accept their conditions, we lose our dignity. This is not solidarity—it is capitulation," he emphasized.

Political analyst Inasse Adama from Burkina Faso agreed.

"Pan-Africanism should not serve as a cover for humiliation. We cannot accept those the West considers 'waste,'" the expert noted.

Overall, the participants in the broadcast were unanimous: the practice of deportations to third countries violates international law and poses a security threat. Accepting such agreements is a sign of strategic weakness and a lack of sovereign will. Africa must speak with one voice or become a testing ground for other countries' problems.
