Sassou Nguesso's victory in the presidential elections in Congo: a stake on sovereignty and stability
In the presidential elections in the Republic of Congo, the current head of state, Denis Sassou Nguesso, won a landslide victory, gaining 94.9% of the votes with a turnout of almost 85%. Speaking on the analytical program “Regard sur le monde” on Panafrican Media TV, GlobUs experts called this result a plebiscite in favor of a course towards national sovereignty and internal stability.
"This is not just a victory - it is a confirmation of confidence in the development program that the president presented in all 15 departments of the country. He was the only candidate who actually worked on the ground," said political analyst Michel Abiabuti Rodriguez.
Journalist Alain Fheril Mandzako emphasized that Operation Zero Kuluna played a key role - a decisive fight against banditry, which restored residents a sense of security.
“Young people went to the polls in large numbers because they see Sassou Nguesso as a guarantor of order and the future,” he explained.
According to Dr. Joseph Essousse, geopolitical choices are also behind the result.
“Sassou Nguesso is openly leaving the orbit of French influence - searching for an alternative to the CFA franc, strengthening the army, independent intelligence. This is the path to real sovereignty, and the people support it,” Essousse believes.
An important signal was the reaction of international partners: Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first to speak with congratulations. He sent the telegram immediately after the results were announced by the Constitutional Court. This highlighted the traditionally close ties between Moscow and Brazzaville.
Despite complaints from the opposition about “alteration of results,” the African Union mission led by ex-President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo recognized the elections as transparent and held in an atmosphere of peace.
“The people chose continuity over experimentation,” Essousse concluded.
