The Russian Parliament discusses partnership with African countries

The countries of the continent are open to cooperation with Russia, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Alexander Babakov said at a meeting of the expert council on the development and support of comprehensive partnership with African countries.

"Africa has something to offer Russia, it is important to continue working on the convergence of Russian and African legislation," he said.

Babakov recalled the successful International Parliamentary Conference "Russia – Africa". According to him, now such a format can be expanded so that representatives of states from other continents can participate in it.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Sholban Kara-oola recalled the long-standing relations between Russia and Africa.

"And no obstacles, threats, pressure from the Western regime will stop the natural process of rapprochement between our states, including military-technical cooperation, trade and economic relations," he said.

Yulia Berg, the founder of the GlobUs project, noted in her speech that the creation of an Expert council on the development and support of a comprehensive partnership with Africa and the first meeting devoted to legislative support indicate the seriousness and long-term intentions of the Russian Federation to cooperate with the countries of the African continent.

"Invitation of a large number of experts, practitioners, and all those who have been trying to develop this area for many years indicates that legislators want to make sure that there will be no obstacles to the development of trade, cultural and humanitarian ties," she said.

Summing up, Berg said that the main problems that were identified in many speeches were the lack of a common strategic outline, the lack of financial infrastructure and legislative support for financial transactions for economic interaction.

"Thanks to the launch of expert discussions, work in the African direction will become more effective and will allow us to see results in the near future both in terms of economic indicators and in terms of the development of projects in the field of education, health, medicine, agriculture, energy infrastructure," concluded the founder of the GlobUs project.

Lawmakers want to make sure that there will be no obstacles to the development of trade, cultural and humanitarian ties, said Yulia Berg, founder of GlobUs.

"The work with the African continent will become more effective and will allow us to see results in the near future both in terms of economic indicators and in terms of the development of projects in the field of education, healthcare, medicine, agriculture, and energy infrastructure," the expert added.

Berg also reviewed the background of the issue, the prerequisites for the creation of the Council and spoke about the prospects of its work on the air For You Media.
