"September 11 in Mali": A Tragedy for Bamako and Lessons for the Pan-African Revolution

The coordinated attacks on Bamako, Kati, Kona, Mopti, Gao and Kidal on April 25, 2026, marked the bloodiest day in the history of the Malian revolution. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Malian army and the Russian African Corps instructors, the attempted coup d'état by local radicals with the support of external forces was thwarted. On the "Regard sur le monde" program, GlobUs experts analyzed the causes of the tragedy, the government's miscalculations, and how the neoliberal "revolution" risks consuming its own children.

Tahirou Bah, a member of the M5-RFP movement and a prominent opinion leader from Bamako, described the events as "Mali's 9/11." According to him, the country has experienced an unprecedented blow, a trauma that will be remembered for centuries.

Charlie Kengne, a strategist, emphasized the need to mobilize all forces, dissolve political parties, and regain control over the media.

"In war conditions, it is not the head of state who should be at the helm, but the military commander," he is sure.

Jonathan Batenguene, Director of Information at Panafrican Media TV, spoke about the lack of operational information from the authorities, including the assassination of the Minister of Defense of Mali.

"Show us a photo of Sadio Camara's house. If it was a suicide bomber, show the consequences," he requested.

Bertrand Tatsinda, a participant in the discussion from Cameroon, pointed out that while the military is talking about victories on the battlefield, the economic situation in Bamako remains catastrophic.

The discussion was particularly heated when it came to the "Pan-Africanists of the last hour." Experts argued that it was a strategic mistake to entrust key positions to individuals with families in Europe who had criticized the revolution before its success.

The unanimous conclusion was that a true revolution requires ideological purity, unity of command, and a willingness to defend one's sovereignty with iron rather than words.
