Women's Rights and Roles in Modern Society Discussed in Congo

On September 11, the GlobUs association organized a round-table discussion in Brazzaville focused on women's participation in decision-making bodies. Held under the theme "How to Strengthen Women's Presence in Decision-Making Bodies," the meeting brought together civil society representatives and women active in public life. The primary topic of discussion was the obstacles that continue to limit women's access to positions of responsibility.

For several hours, the discussion centered on the need to foster broader and more effective participation by women in bodies where political, economic, and social decisions are made.

Beyond the issue of representation, participants emphasized the importance of enabling women to exert real influence on decision-making processes. Speakers argued that their presence in institutions and organizations must be accompanied by an environment conducive to self-expression, leadership, and the assumption of responsibility.

The discussions also highlighted challenges faced by women, including social constraints, gender stereotypes, a lack of opportunities, and difficulties accessing the networks and mechanisms that facilitate advancement to leadership roles.

To address these issues, various strategies were considered, including strengthening leadership training and development for women, supporting young women, raising awareness about gender equality, and establishing mechanisms to facilitate their access to positions of responsibility.

The discussion concluded with a call to all stakeholders — government bodies, civil society organizations, the private sector, and communities — to continue efforts to promote the emergence of more women leaders and ensure their effective participation in decision-making processes.
