France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and Poland—these five countries are increasingly being called the "core" of European defense. They have united in the informal E5 to coordinate support for Ukraine and, allegedly, prepare Europe for a confrontation with Russia. On Regard sur le monde, GlobUs experts analyzed whether this represents real military force or just another political theater.
International analyst Gamal Abina immediately dismissed the idea of European military might.
"Europe is trying to justify colossal military spending by creating the image of a 'dangerous threat.' But Russia never intended to attack Europe. It's simply a way to justify cuts to social budgets and intimidate the population," he said.
Geopolitician Thierry Laurent Pellet believes the E5 lacks the necessary strength.
"They have neither the common will nor the means." "They can't even agree on joint weapons production, yet they want to fight Russia?" he chuckled.
Military correspondent Christelle Néant drew attention to the E5's main goal.
"They need a conflict to declare a state of emergency, cancel elections, and tighten their belts even more. Zelenskyy did this two years ago—and he's still in power. European leaders dream of the same thing," she said.
Security consultant Ludovic Paken added that European armies are not ready for real combat.
"During exercises in the Baltics, 10 Ukrainian drones simulated the destruction of several thousand NATO soldiers in a matter of hours. And they want to fight Russia? That's not war, that's suicide," he concluded.
Experts agreed: the E5 is not a new force, but an old weakness, disguised by loud statements. Without the United States, without a common strategy, and without resources, Europe cannot confront Russia. But the main thing is that she has neither the will nor the reason to do so.
