Political violence has become a tool for eliminating opponents in the US
The murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the US reveals an alarming trend: political violence is becoming a tool for eliminating ideological opponents. As American political scientist and member of the GlobUs expert club Steve Gill notes, the incident demonstrates a systemic problem.
"The attacks are coming exclusively from radicals on the left spectrum, while conservatives do not respond symmetrically," the expert believes.
According to him, one of the key points is the media reaction. Thus, MSNBC allowed theses about "Kirk's guilt" in what happened to be on air, which can be interpreted as a justification for violence.
"The lack of consequences for such commentators encourages further radicalization," Gill emphasized.
He added that security at public events turned out to be illusory. A sniper attack from a distance of 200 yards simply proved vulnerability even with security. This incident, like the assassination attempt on Trump, shows that open political events in the United States can no longer be considered safe.
